fancy playing at a live venue, either as a solo artist or in a band? ‘PLUG’ is a great way to play your music style if you’re independent and unsigned. this just goes to show how places like this are apart of sheffield’s thrilling music scene, looking past all the mainstream. try it yourself:
want to play at plug?

Since reopening in the former .Zero confinements in 2005, Plug has offered Sheffield and the North of England a top class live music and club venue. There have been magnificent live performances; the vitriolic Prodigy show that sold out in three hours in May, the effusive Patti Smith delivering her coarse poetry, and putting on Lily Allen’s first ever Sheffield show. All acts have benefited form that rare combination of grandiosity and intimacy that has defined Plug, making it an arena which delivers the wide ranging impact that marks out the best live performances without ever over-awing the crowds.’

^ Me & friends @ tramlines. I like how the guy behind us looks rather scared…

Yes, it’s already been and gone but I’m sure its worth writing about. I went this year and spent the whole day there. It was incredible- to say I mainly stayed in the main stage area. Theres so much more going on apart from that. Drinks/food & a lot of little indepent stalls all from sheffield. I’d really recommend it if you fancy an indie music day. Its free as well, so seeing great bands live like ‘mystrey jets’ and ‘echo & the bunnyman’ couldn’t be easier.

The whole atmospher of everyone gathering overwhleming. I’d seriously check it out for next year. click here for the site: details will probably go up march/april time with the listings of venues and who they’re hosting:

Arctic Monkeys are an English alternative rock band. Formed in 2002 in High Green, a suburb of Sheffield, the band currently consists of:

Alex Turner (lead vocals, rhythm guitar),
Jamie Cook (lead guitar),
Nick O’Malley (bass guitar, backing vocals),
Matt Helders (drums, backing vocals)

John Ashton as a touring member (keyboard, guitar, backing vocals).

Former members include:
Andy Nicholson (bass guitar, backing vocals)
Glyn Jones (lead vocals, guitar).

Their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, released in early 2006, became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history, surpassing Kula Shaker’s K and remains the fastest-selling debut album for a band in the UK. Since then the band have released two more albums: Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007) and Humbug (2009).

The band is currently in the studio, recording their fourth album, expected to be released in 2011.
